HARRISBURG – Sen. Mike Regan (R-31) today disclosed that $2.7 million in school safety grants have been designated for schools in the 31st Senate District, which includes areas of Cumberland and York counties. The grants aim to bolster safety measures in local educational institutions.

"These dollars will help protect Pennsylvania students against the safety threats we read about in the newspaper and see on the nightly news," expressed Senator Regan, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of students in the state. He further added, "Our schools must have the personnel and equipment necessary to ensure the safety of Pennsylvania students."

The allocated funding is part of Pennsylvania’s School Safety and Security Grant Program, which has dispersed over $150 million in School Safety Grants to schools statewide. Senator Regan has long been a vocal proponent of state funding for school safety initiatives. His advocacy led to the establishment of the School Safety and Security Grant Program, which initially provided over $50 million for school safety initiatives.

In his efforts to enhance school safety, Regan introduced legislation that was subsequently enacted into law, strengthening the original school safety legislation. These provisions enabled schools to have armed security guards and permitted sheriffs and deputy sheriffs to serve as school resource officers.

Reflecting on the importance of continued investment in student safety, Senator Regan remarked, "It’s important for Pennsylvania to continue building on the historic investments it is making to protect our students." He stressed, "Safe schools aren’t a luxury; they are a necessity. Students need and deserve a safe learning environment."

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency administers Pennsylvania’s School Safety and Security Grant Program. Detailed lists of grant awards for both public and nonpublic schools are accessible online.
