HARRISBURG – As a member of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA), Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) announced today that southern York County will receive nearly $9.7 million to increase access to reliable, high-speed internet.

"Today’s allocation marks the first significant step toward bridging the digital divide in southern York County and connecting local homeowners to high-speed internet. For too long, our community has grappled with the frustration of unreliable internet access. With these funds, we’re not just improving internet connectivity; we are improving opportunities for southern York County," expressed Phillips-Hill.

The funds, totaling $18.2 million with a match from Comcast Cable Communications, are made feasible by the federally funded Broadband Infrastructure Program. This initiative aims to address the lack of 25/3 Mbps internet service in various parts of the state.

Sen. Phillips-Hill emphasized the importance of accountability in the distribution and utilization of these funds, stating, "With stringent oversight and claw back provisions, we’re not just investing in infrastructure; we’re investing in accountability. Every cent will be maximized to ensure our constituents finally receive the connectivity they deserve."

The PBDA, which mandates quarterly and annual progress reports from grantees, is committed to ensuring transparency and efficiency in the implementation of broadband projects. Grantees will be required to adhere to state and federal guidelines, with all funds expected to be utilized by Dec. 31, 2026. The PBDA retains the authority to reclaim any unused or misused funds.

This significant funding allocation represents a substantial milestone in the PBDA's efforts to close the digital divide, following its establishment by the General Assembly in 2021.
